Project Proposal Reflection Essay
Our proposal to integrate self healing concrete into New York City roads aims to increase the longevity and durability of the roads we have today. Our research found that adding lime clast to current asphalt mixtures can strengthen and repair roads on its own. This fascinating process was thoroughly researched and extracted from various different sources by all my group mates, and it was very fun working together with my classmates on this project. Even though my group mates were not always responsive, we were still able to do our parts and present our proposal confidently and diligently. Our audience for this proposal is New York City Mayor, Eric Adams because only he can sign it into effect, so the genre of this proposal is very serious and assertive. Using facts and scientific research, we hope to reach out to the mayor of this city and implore him to fund this proposal, which would ultimately save this city billions of dollars every year while also decreasing New York’s carbon footprint.
We chose this proposal because it seemed like an idea that was too good to be true, and we wanted to find out if there were really roads that could heal themselves. Our findings were shocking, and we knew we would choose this proposal because, as New Yorkers, we all know how broken our roads are, and some roads have not been repaired in decades. Large potholes, bumpy roads, and traffic due to road construction follow us wherever we go, so we decided to research a topic that would save New York City roads.
Throughout this proposal, I was able to complete many course learning outcomes, such as using the Internet for research and sourcing, genre analysis, and formulating our stance in our proposal and presentation. We were easily able to complete the first learning outcome I mentioned because we required a lot of research to understand how our product works and to make sure it was effective and safe for our environment. We also formulated a genre in our proposal in order to effectively convince our audience of the benefits of using lime clast in modern roads and infrastructure. Lastly, we formulated our stance through extensive research and collaboration, which taught us a lot about the subject at hand and made us experts in this proposal, so we can confidently and determinedly present our proposal to the rest of our class. Overall, this assignment was a great learning experience, and I enjoyed working with my classmates to research, develop, and present this proposal.
